This theme is great for any size business and easily scales because it’s built on top of the WordPress infrastructure. ClassiPress can either replace your current WordPress theme or run in parallel with your existing Web site so the choice is up to you.
ClassiPress Theme is optimized for WordPress 2.9.1.
Installation Instructions:
1. Upload the ClassiPress theme folder via FTP to your /wp-content/themes/ directory.
2. Upload the contents of the plugins folder via FTP to your /wp-content/plugins/ directory (note you may need to update these to the latest versions).
3. CHMOD the directory “cache” on your server to 777 (not always required on all servers)
4. Create a new directory called “classipress” on your server in /wp-content/uploads/ . CHMOD it to 777 so it’s fully writable. This is where your customer uploaded images will go.
5. Activate ClassiPress from within WordPress. “Appearance” => “Themes“.
6. A new menu called “ClassiPress” will now be visible at the bottom left column. Go through “Configure”, “Settings” and “Payment” sections and make sure to select your options and SAVE. This step is important since saving will activate these options.
7. Go to the plugins page and activate the new plugins one by one (EXCEPT FOR the “Breadcrumb NavXT – Core” plugin). After you activate each one, go back and make sure your site is still working. Sometimes your existing plugins will interfere with new ones. Activating them one at a time helps isolate which one is causing the problem. You’ll need to configure some of these plugins before they look exactly like the demo.
8. Now try creating a new classified ad. Make sure everything works properly before you begin offering ads to customers. The number one issue most people have after installation is related to the /wp-content/uploads/classipress folder. Make sure the folder is named correctly and the permissions are set properly.
ADDITIONAL INSTRUCTIONS:
Below are some additional tips when installing ClassiPress.
- Go to “Settings” => “Permalinks” and change the default to “Custom Structure“. There you enter in /%postname%/ and save. This will make your site urls much more friendly-looking and improve your SEO.
- By default in WordPress, your comments will usually be turned on. This means anyone can post comments on your site. If you don’t want people to be able to post comments on your classified ads, then make sure to turn this option off within WordPress.
- The “New User Default Role” under “Settings” => “General” should be set to “Contributor“. The “Membership” option box should also be checked to activate this feature.
- After installing the wp125 plugin, you’ll need to disable the default style. Go to “Ads” => “Settings” and uncheck the “Default Style” box. Then your 125×125 ads will appear correctly in the right column.
